Foreperson Training and Safety Leadership — the first step in your SCP journey.
Course Overview
The Supervisor Certification Program (SCP) begins with Foreperson Training and the Foundations for Safety Leadership module. Together, these courses build the leadership, planning, and safety skills needed to transition from journeyworker to foreperson or supervisor.
Course Schedule
Day One – Building the Foundation
- Course overview and expectations
- Transition from worker to foreperson
- Roles and responsibilities of the foreperson
- Communication and leadership skills
- Team building & worker motivation
- Labor-management relations
- Harassment and discrimination awareness
- Introduction to planning & scheduling
Day Two – Applying the Skills
- Planning, scheduling, and problem-solving
- Documentation & recordkeeping
- Productivity: project tempo, efficiency factors, financial impact
- Quality: standards, specifications, inspections, and feedback
- Foundations for Safety Leadership (SCP requirement) – why safety leadership matters, skills of safety leaders, and application on the jobsite
- Course summary and evaluation
Who Should Attend
New, experienced, or aspiring leaders. Participants should be skilled journey worker or experienced apprentices with OSHA 10 (minimum) or OSHA 30 (preferred), plus first aid/CPR training.

- Length: 16 hours (2 days of classroom instruction)
- Materials Provided: Student manual, safety leadership handout, course syllabus, and evaluation form
