Pre-Apprenticeship
Each spring we offer two brick/PCC pre-apprenticeships, one in the spring and one in the summer, and one tile pre-apprenticeship. Both programs are formatted to provide you with the basics of beginning work in each respective trade. This means that classes are Monday-Friday, begin at 7am, and end at 3:30pm, just like your typical week on a job site. These are unpaid classes, which costs you absolutely nothing but your time and commitment, until completion at which point you will need to purchase your own set of tools to begin work.
The main requirements for attending and being successful in this program, are the same as the requirements for being successful in our trade.
- You are committed to showing up, every day, on time – which means in the building, in your seat, and ready to begin at 7am.
- You have your own mode of transportation – it is nearly impossible to be successful in this industry relying on others or public transit to get to and from the job sites.
- Being mentally prepared for the physical tasks presented in this line of work – it is heavy, dirty, and labor intensive.
The Brick Pre-Apprentice program is a 6 week session and will introduce you to both work as a bricklayer and as a pointer-caulker-cleaner. The Tile Pre-Apprentice program is a single week session that will get you acclimated to the tasks performed by a Tile Finisher.
During the pre-apprenticeship, our goal is to assist you with gaining employment by one of our signatory contractors. We have a 90% success rate for those that complete and meet all requirements of the program. Following the pre-apprenticeship and employment by a signatory contractor, you would join the BAC and enroll in registered apprenticeship, attending the required courses for each respective trade, the following fall.
